New School

New School

St Andrews Primary school is oversubscribed and lacks basic amenities such as a school hall. We propose to build a new primary school that will cater for current and future pupil numbers and is built to a specification to allow St Andrews to relocate.

The school submitted a letter supporting the planning application for West Shottery to the Council which highlights many of the problems that the West Stratford scheme can help to resolve. In the letter, the staff and governors of the school state:

"Our school is currently oversubscribed and cannot meet need because our current site has no scope for expansion, a new site would enable us to develop and further meet the needs of the community through extended services.

"Our current school building and site consists of a Tudor barn with Victorian extension and two temporary classrooms. Whilst work has been carried out to improve facilities, we are restricted by the building's listed status and small site. The nature of the construction also makes it difficult to reduce our carbon footprint. Our school currently lacks an assembly/PE hall, a library, a separate office and staffroom and playing fields, all of which should be standard facilities in a school.

"We need a new site with its associated facilities and for that reason we support this proposal. The school also supports the need for new road infrastructure between the Evesham and Alcester Roads".
